“Mambayya House, Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies founded in the year 2000, is a unique Research Centre at Bayero University, Kano devoted in conducting Research and Training in all aspect of Democratic Studies, Democratic Culture, Good Governance and Peaceful Coexistence. It is the Vison of Mambayya House to be a leading Centre in Democratic Studies in Africa. As the Director of this noble Centre, I invite you to visit us and learn more about the historical artefact of Late Malam Aminu Kano in his living history museum, He is a prominent Politician and the founder of People's Redemption Party (PRP). Stay in our Gambo Sawaba Suites and utilise our Mudi Sipikin Library. Patronize our Training and Research service in areas of Humanitarian Development, Peaceful Coexistence, and Democratic Practice.”

Mambayya House, the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Studies was founded in November 2000 as a research and training unit of Bayero University, Kano. The Centre seeks to achieve its aims through basic and applied researches; focused programs and activities. It is a non-proft making organization and operates as a relatively autonomous organ within the university’s organizational structure, subject to the university’s regulations in respect of accountability and academic standards. Since its inception, Mambayya House has a befitting edifice located at No. A69, Kofar Ruwa Road, Gwammaja Quarters, within the ancient city of Kano. It has an administrative block, a library, a conference facility with a 500-seat auditorium and 6 smaller committee rooms, 10 selfcontained guest suites and a cafeteria.

Responsibilities

Broadly speaking, the Centre’s major responsibility and duties revolves around the following areas:

  • Applied Research

    To conduct theoretical and applied research on all aspects of democracy in Nigeria such as democratic political development; democratic governance, democratic political institutions and electoral process, democratic political culture and values, etc.

  • Democratic Studies and Training

    To conduct democratic studies and training; political education; civic education, voter education, training programmes in democratic governance and practice, improving skills and capacity on democracy, tolerance and good governance for politicians, policy makers, legislators, civil society activists, and generality of the Nigerian people, etc.

  • Promote Peace Education

    To promote peace education and skills development on conflict prevention, conflict management, peace building and resolution of disputes for a more stable democratic polity, Skills in ICT, media, youth and gender issues, etc.
